Ellie Mamalis had a ‘plain-sailing’ pregnancy and was even told her baby boy was measuring just below the average, so his current size has come as a huge surprise

Nothing was out of the ordinary for mum Ellie Mamalis when she gave birth to her baby son, but things soon changed.

The 28-year-old had a regular pregnancy and was even told in one of her appointments that her baby was measuring just below the average for his size. The mum gave birth to son Dacre in September 2023, however six months on, he’s already “bursting out” of clothes meant for a two-year-old.

When born, he was normal size and weighed 3.3kg (7.3 lbs). Now at six months, the tot weighs a whopping 10.5kg (23lbs). Ellie, a stay-at-home mum from South Australia, said: “He’s wearing 18-24 month clothes and even then, he’s busting out of them.

“He’s in size six nappies, which is the biggest size they come in too.” The baby boy is breastfed, and has only just started trying solids. The mum-of-two added: “He doesn’t eat enough to say that that is the reason for his chunkiness.”

Reflecting on her pregnancy, Ellie says that she had no idea that he was going to be a big baby, with scans measuring him as being an average-sized newborn. “My whole pregnancy was normal and in all our scans he was measuring average size,” she explained.

“The pregnancy was pretty straightforward and actually flew by. In one of our appointments, they did say he was measuring just below the average, so I never would have predicted him becoming so huge so quickly after birth.” Regardless of his larger than average size, Dacre is just like any other happy baby, and has also developed “his own little character.”

Ellie continued: “Dacre’s the sweetest happiest baby. He has a little personality already. He loves a good snuggle and kiss and loves watching everything his big brother does. He’s always giggling at his brother or when we play peekaboo.”

Meanwhile, mums were left astonished last week as adorable photos went viral of a newborn baby with a full head of hair. Mum Chenice said her baby boy, Navy, was born rocking a stylish side parting, which she then nicknamed a “womb perm”. He was also branded as a “distinguished young man” at just two months old thanks to his looks.

The 26-year-old, from Essex, has been inundated with comments since sharing her son’s amazing hairdo online. Little Navy has been compared to the likes of Mark Wahlberg, Donald Trump and Kevin Du Bruyne.

“I was shocked and even now, my partner and I constantly say to each other: ‘Look at his hair’,” Chenice revealed. “My partner laughed so much and jokes that he [Navy] has more hair than him and that he’s jealous. My mum has given him the nickname ‘Wiggy’ and it’s stuck because it’s not stopped growing and is getting fuller all the time.”
