Pet owners share excitement as Aldi’s £2.99 dog-friendly ice cream returns

Dog owners rushed to Aldi last year when it launched the first-ever supermarket dog-friendly ice cream – now the popular product is returning to shelves as temperatures rise

Dog owners have shared their delight as Aldi brings back its sell-out ice cream pots for dogs.

As temperatures have warmed up lately, many of us will be purchasing ice creams and lollies for a treat in the sunshine that keeps us cool. Now, your furry friends can stop staring and drooling at your 99 flake, and tuck into their own version. There has been in a rise in popularity for ‘puppacinos’ in coffee shops and dog-friendly treats served in dessert shops and ice cream parlours. Supermarkets are now offer cooling treats for our pets – and dog owners are loving it.

Last year, Aldi became the first supermarket to launch dog-friendly ice cream. The popular pup treat sold out in record time with “nearly 30 tubs every minute flying out of the freezer” when it launched in June, an Aldi spokesperson said. And now, the supermarket’s popular canine treat is back and promises to get tails wagging.

NewFoodsUK shared on social media recently that the product has been spotted in some Aldi’s already – despite Aldi confirming the product will hit shelves nationwide from August. More than 1,000 customers reacted to the news and flocked to share their excitement. “Willow will devour these,” one individual said. “We are going to Aldi tomorrow,” said another.

One dog-lover added: “These sound yummy.” Doggies will be happy this summer,” wrote one other.

The ice creams selection includes two flavours – pea and vanilla and carrot and apple. The product is 100% plant based and includes real fruit and vegetables. A pack of four 110ml tubs is priced at £2.99.

Julie Ashfield, Managing Director of Buying at Aldi UK, said: “Last year we became the first UK supermarket to launch a dog-friendly ice cream, and it was a huge hit with pet owners. We’re delighted to bring back a product that is both nutritious and cooling for dogs, just as the sunshine returns!”

The product, which will be available in the freezer aisle, is an Aldi Specialbuy which means once they’re gone, they’re gone. The supermarket says that its Special buys are “unique and exciting products” and found on Thursday and Sundays in store.
