Arsenal target Rodrygo has already sent a clear message to manager Mikel Arteta should he eventually swap Real Madrid for the London club.

The Brazilian winger has been touted for a move which could set the Gunners back up to £70million after spending six seasons in the Spanish capital.

The majority of that time has been under the stewardship of Carlo Ancelotti, who recently departed Madrid, where he and the 23-year-old won two Champions League medals, to coach the Brazil national team.

But, Rodygro has made it clear to Don Carlo that things will be different between club and country after playing several roles in Ancelotti’s Madrid side.

“I’ve always made it clear that I have the ability to play on the wings, I just don’t like playing as a (No.) 9, although at my club I have to do it. In Brazil, I have more freedom to move,” the player explained.

Madrid shifted from a familiar 4-3-3 formation to a more rigid 4-4-2 shape in the last year of Ancelotti’s second reign, with Rodrygo primarily finding minutes as a striker, behind countryman Vinicius Junior and Kylian Mbappe.

The former Santos player added: “It’s a positive pressure to know that people trust you. I see myself like that in this new cycle, and I think I can live up to those expectations that have been placed on me.

“Sometimes I’ll be on the flanks, in the centre, every striker has his style and plays in a different way. It depends on how the team approaches it and how we plan the attack.”

Xabi Alonso was selected as Ancelotti’s successor, and it’s believed the 42-year-old manager is willing to let Rodrygo leave the club as he implements his own brand of football.

Arsenal have been rumoured to hold an interest in signing the player, with both Arteta and Andrea Berta allegedly close to approving a potential bid.

If Rodrygo were to move to the Emirates, he would likely be deployed in his favourite left-wing position, providing competition for fellow Brazilian Gabriel Martinelli and Leandro Trossard.

This assumption is backed up by Arsenal’s well-documented pursuit of a central striker with RB Leipzig’s Benjamin Sesko and Sporting’s Viktor Gyokeres topping the list of targets.
