Rodrygo to Arsenal transfer hinges on crucial condition amid Andrea Berta masterplan

Mikel Arteta may be forced to sanction an Arsenal exit to sign Rodrygo from Real Madrid in the summer transfer window.

The Brazil international appears to be surplus to requirements under Xabi Alonso having remained an unused substitute in two of the four Real games he has taken charge of.

With minutes also scarce toward the conclusion of the La Liga season, though that was because of fitness issues, links to the Gunners began especially as the addition of a wide forward was something wanted by Arteta.

A striker, defender and back-up goalkeeper were other transfer priorities handed to Andrea Berta with one of those sealed and another likely to be very soon.

On Tuesday, Kepa Arrizabalaga’s £5 million move from Chelsea was confirmed with recent reports also stating that a second bid for Cristhian Mosquera of Valencia was on the way.

Those two updates were in addition to deals being agreed for Christian Norgaard and Martin Zubimendi to arrive as midfield replacements for Jorginho and Thomas Partey. Once those four moves have been confirmed, attention will undoubtedly go onto attacking additions.

Some form of contact has been made for all of Viktor Gyokeres, Benjamin Sesko, Rodrygo, Rafael Leao and Eberechi Eze with the latter as the newest concrete target following a meeting between the Crystal Palace star’s representatives and Arsenal last weekend.

The attacking midfielder is also capable of playing out wide and the latest update from journalist David Ornstein suggests he may have to feature there more often than he would like if he does join the Gunners.

“Arsenal always wanted to strengthen on the left-wing, but they’ve got Gabriel Martinelli there,” he said during a recent podcast from The Athletic . “If he was to leave, then you could see them bringing in a top left-sided winger. If he’s not to leave, I don’t think so.

“We’ve reported on the likes of Rodrygo and Anthony Gordon, I think that’s if a Martinelli leaves. I don’t necessarily think that that’s if he was to stay.”

This claim was made just after Ornstein revealed that Eze was being pursued alongside a striker and wide forward signing. If Martinelli’s future is a key condition regarding a potential deal for Rodrygo, other teams could play a key role.

Nico Williams has been heavily linked with a move to Bayern Munich, while Barcelona are also keen. Bayern have also been linked with other left-wingers including Manchester United’s Marcus Rashford.
