Arsenal have been handed a number of updates in their summer transfer pursuit of Real Madrid star Rodrygo. football.london understands that the Gunners are aiming to sign a wide forward before the 2025/26 season with a striker, defender and back-up goalkeeper also wanted.
Nico Williams of Athletic Club is Mikel Arteta’s dream target with an admiration for him present prior to his breakout displays at Euro 2024. However, the Brazilian is a very unique market opportunity with his future in the Spanish capital appearing uncertain and the Arsenal boss is said to be a big fan.
Injury and illness resulted in him missing a significant chunk of action towards the end of the campaign but he still managed 23 goal contributions from 50 appearances in all competitions.
The player himself has rubbished those Madrid exit rumours but him remaining at the club is not exactly guaranteed. With that being said, football.london has taken a look at the latest updates surrounding his future and Arsenal’s attempts to sign him.
£84m timeline
According to Relevo journalist Jorge Picon, there are currently no offers on the table for Rodrygo from interested suitors. He has also claimed that while Arsenal’s interest is real, a move is a long way off.
One of the reasons for that could be due to the Club World Cup causing a break in the summer window. Madrid’s significant asking price, which is said to be £84million (€100m), could also complicate any potential deal.
Man City decision
Unsurprisingly, Arsenal are not the only team interested in signing Rodrygo if he does become available. Rodra P, also of Relevo, has provided an update in which he names another Premier League club that is showing an interest.
“The latest I’ve heard is that in addition to Arsenal’s interest, Manchester City has also appeared on the scene,” he admitted.
Xabi Alonso stance
New Madrid manager Xabi Alonso was asked about Rodrygo’s future at his first press conference and the Spaniard made his feelings perfectly clear.
“He’s a Madrid player and I will have a conversation with everyone because we need to do so,” he admitted to reporters on Monday. “We’ll get to know each other. He’s a spectacular player and we need him.”
