A woman has shared her cheap and easy method to get dirty skirting boards looking brand new and staying that way for months – and you only need one common cleaning item

Say goodbye to dirty skirting boards with this easy hack.

Let’s be honest, when it comes to cleaning our homes, many of us don’t think about the need to clean our skirting boards. Ignoring the niche area of each room can lead to them getting covered in dust and other grime, though, so it is important to keep them just as clean as your carpets and other surfaces.

However, you don’t need to wipe them down every single week. According to one cleaning fan, there’s a simple way you can clean your skirting boards in seconds – and it’ll keep them clean for months before needing a touch-up.

A TikTok user who posts under the username @mommapeaches5 claimed that all you need to keep your skirting boards clean is one common cleaning item that’s used for a different part of the house – window cleaner. The woman, from the US, said that by spraying the boards with window cleaner, you can wipe away all grime with nothing but a paper towel.

She said: “Spray down all your baseboards with window cleaner and start wiping it up with some paper towels. Oh my god, just like brand spanking new.”

In her video, the woman applied a hefty amount of foam-based window cleaner to her skirting boards, and when someone in the comments told her she didn’t need to use that much, she explained: “I do it and I scrub my floor around cracks good every few months.” She also insisted it doesn’t “hurt the paint” if you accidentally get some cleaner on your walls.

There are many different types of window cleaning solutions. If you’re a fan of Pink Stuff paste for your cleaning needs, the brand also sells a specific window and glass cleaner that you can use for this hack, which can be bought from Wilko for just £1.19, or from Amazon for £5.29. Another popular cleaning brand is Astonish, who sell their window and glass cleaner for just £1 on Amazon for a single bottle.

If you specifically want a foaming cleaner as the woman in the TikTok video used, Aristowax foaming glass cleaner costs just £1.50 from Asda, or can be bought from Amazon for £7.50 for a pack of three.

Commenters on the woman’s video were quick to praise the hack, with many saying they already use it and agree with its effectiveness. One person said: “My toxic trait is I use window cleaner for everything,” while another added: “Foaming wall cleaner works great, just spray and wipe!”
