TfL not planning extra Wembley Stadium Tubes or buses for Taylor Swift fans after Eras Tour ‘chaos’

By Staff

Transport for London (TfL) has said that it is not planning any changes to existing services for Taylor Swift fans leaving The Eras Tour shows in London next week. It comes after there was travel ‘chaos’ in Scotland with fans facing lengthy queues and massive Uber surcharges.

The billionaire released her new album, The Tortured Poets Department, in April. Now she is heading to Wembley Stadium as part of a massive global tour. She will be playing in the city from Friday, June 21, until Sunday, June 23. Taylor will then return in August.

EdinburghLive reported that those looking to travel to Taylor Swift’s opening night concert at Murrayfield Stadium from Friday, June 7, to Sunday, June 9, faced long waits.

Trams and buses were full but ran at an increased capacity to try to ferry tens of thousands of fans to the highly anticipated gig. The Scottish Sun reported that online footage showed ‘huge crowds at a standstill’ as they tried to exit the gig. The newspaper added that more queues formed around the Murrayfield tram stop, with services ‘filling up as quickly as they could arrive’.

Fans ‘had to get taxis and Ubers’

ScotRail and Edinburgh Trams put on extra services to transport Swifties from the Scottish capital’s stadium back home. Thousands of punters reportedly ‘spilled out’ of the venue after the gig had finished.

Some fans from outside Edinburgh struggled to get home as some had to ‘fork out on expensive taxis and Ubers’, reported journalists at the scene. But TfL has assured MyLondon that it is prepared for Taylor’s visits.

A spokesperson the authority said: “The London transport network, including Wembley Park station, is well-accustomed to handling high volumes of customers attending the frequent concerts, matches and events at Wembley Stadium. Transport for London (TfL) works closely with Wembley Stadium and crowd control measures will be in place on public transport to ensure all Swifties get to and from the concerts safely.”
