The Arsenal transfer more important than Rodrygo or Viktor Gyokeres in Andrea Berta masterplan

Arsenal are taking a firm grip on the summer transfer window. They have confirmed the arrivals of Kepa Arrizabalaga and Martin Zubimendi, and Christian Norgaard’s announcement is expected very soon. But there is plenty more work ongoing for Arsenal as they try to upgrade their attacking options during the window.

Andrea Berta has been the leading light among those involved at Arsenal in the recruitment team. The new club sporting director’s strategy has been lauded, and with talks progressing for the marquee centre-forward signing of Viktor Gyokeres, the hope is that the long-awaited move for a striker is about to be wrapped up.

There is also a belief that Real Madrid forward Rodrygo could be a market opportunity this summer, and Arsenal have already held discussions with the player to gauge interest in a move to north London. For many, both Gyokeres and Rodrygo would be considered the headline-making players.

For me, that lies with Eberechi Eze. A Premier League-ready player who could take this team to the next level with his ability to score from almost anywhere.

Arsenal have truly lacked those types of players, with only Bukayo Saka able to fulfil such a role. Martin Odegaard would finally get genuine competition for his position, but Eze can also offer coverage and competition for a number of other roles, such as the left-hand side and the left eight.

It is a statement signing and for those with the view that signing Real Madrid’s Rodrygo would be much better for Arsenal, let’s not forget that only one of the two players mentioned here have multiple double digit seasons in the league for their respective sides, one playing for the biggest club in the world, the other for a Crystal Palace side who were it not for Eze, would not be celebrating an FA Cup victory and yet again another bottom half finish.

If Arsenal land Eze this summer, it is a signing that would rumble the likes of Manchester City and Liverpool as much, in my view, more than the likes of Gyokeres and Rodrygo. Get all three, and Berta’s masterplan is reaching heights perhaps few thought it would so soon.
