Parents say the school feels more like a family

A central London primary school which feels like it belongs in a “small village” has been crowned the best in London. St Mary’s Bryanston Square CofE School, in Westminster, was crowned best in the city by the Telegraph earlier this month.

It was one of 15,000 state funded primary schools assessed by the newspaper for the academic year of 2023-24. St Mary’s Bryanston Square CofE School was the only school in London to make it onto the Telegraph’s list of the top ten, with a perfect score of forty-out-of-forty.

And its not hard to see why when you look at St Mary’s Bryanston Square CofE School’s latest Ofsted report. The school has a “small village” feel despite being in the heart of London. In fact, parents were so pleased with it, that they said that it “felt like a family.”

‘A school where learning is always fun’

Children are also exposed to the wider community from an early age, through school councils and meeting local councillors. All are welcomed with open arms – in 2022 the school accepted in over 30 refugees from Afghanistan.

The mixed education Church of England School prioritises Christian values. The latest Ofsted report said that “bullying is very rare” and when it does happen it is “dealt with swiftly and effectively.”

The Ofsted report read: “Pupils love attending this small ‘village’ school. They enjoy learning the broad curriculum, and they comment that their learning is always fun. They work hard and are thoughtful towards others.

“Pupils appreciate the support that their teachers give them. They speak about how they are always helped to do their best, commenting that they feel very safe.”

St Mary’s Bryanston Square CofE School boasts a wide curriculum of subjects, with frequent trips and events for pupils to take part in. The children even grow their own vegetables in their ‘edible garden’, which are then served up in the school canteen.

But, its not all learning at St Mary’s Bryanston Square CofE School. Children are given a range of activities to enjoy during their break and lunch times, such as hockey, scooting, hoopla and den-building.
