Enfield has become one of just eight local authorities in the country where every state school is rated good or outstanding by Ofsted.

The milestone was reached following a recent inspection at St James’ Church of England Primary School in Enfield Highway (EN3), which was upgraded to at least ‘good’ in all areas. The result means that every state-maintained school in Enfield now holds a top-tier rating across all four key Ofsted categories: Quality of Education, Behaviour and Attitudes, Personal Development, and Leadership and Management.

Cllr Abdul Abdullahi, Enfield Council’s Cabinet Member for Children’s Services, described the achievement as “a proud and historic moment for Enfield.”

“Every child and young person in Enfield attends a school rated at least good in key areas,” he said. “This is an exceptional achievement, one that speaks volumes about the dedication of our school leaders, teachers, governors, Council officers, support staff and families. I would like to thank them all for their tireless work to give every child the best possible start in life.”

The rating for St James’ was particularly notable for its ‘Outstanding’ grade in the category of personal development. A school spokesperson said: “We are so proud of what we have achieved together. Our children are outstanding young people, and our staff are committed and dedicated to providing an excellent quality of education.”

Enfield Council said the borough-wide success was the result of years of sustained collaboration between schools and council services, including the School Improvement Service, Governance, and Behaviour Support.

The council said it would continue to share best practice with other local authorities across London, helping to drive innovation and high standards in education across the capital.

“They understand and can articulate the school’s values, which underpin their actions and attitudes to learning. A sense of kindness and care permeates the school. Pupils are greeted by friendly staff who know them, their families and their individual needs. The school is a happy place, and pupils enjoy coming to school each day.”
