Urgent hunt for man, 33, wanted after ‘murder’ of Stoke Newington bus driver

Police are hunting for a man after a bus driver was stabbed in Stoke Newington earlier this week (Tuesday, July 3). Detectives want to speak to Kamar Williams, 33, in their murder investigation.

Williams, who lives in the Isle of Dogs, is known to frequent East London and South East London, detectives say. Members of the public have been told not to approach him. The Met says that if you see Williams, to call 999 immediately.

Police have also revealed that a 30-year-old woman was arrested yesterday (Saturday, August 3) on suspicion of assisting an offender and remains in custody.

Derek Neil Thomas, 53, was stabbed to death on his way home from work as a bus driver on Northwold Road. Police were called at 11.05pm, with paramedics also rushing to the scene, but he died.

Mr Thomas has been described as a ‘true gentleman’ and ‘lovely and friendly’.

Police say his next of kin are aware and are being supported by specially trained officers. A post-mortem examination held at Poplar Mortuary on Thursday, August 1, gave cause of death as a stab wound to the chest.

‘Call 999 immediately’

If you see Williams, you must call 999 straight away.

A spokesperson for the force added: “Information to his whereabouts can be shared with the incident room on 0208 345 3715 quoting Operation Brooktunnel.

“The investigation is led by Detective Chief Inspector Mark Rogers in the Met’s Specialist Crime (Homicide) Command. Anyone with information that could assist police is asked to call the incident room on 0208 345 3715, 101 or ‘X’ @MetCC and quote CAD 8517/30Jul.

“You can also provide information, completely anonymously, to the independent charity Crimestoppers on 0800 555 111.

“Additionally, if you know someone who is regularly carrying a knife, you can also pass that information to us, without telling the police who you are, through Crimestoppers on 0800 555 111. Knife crime hurts all our communities – you can help us tackle this.”
