Galatasaray have reportedly set their sights on Chelsea star Christopher Nkunku after coming to terms with the fact that Blues-linked Victor Osimhen will not be returning.
The 26-year-old has endured a very successful nine months in Turkiye with 37 goals scored in all competitions and won two trophies during his time in Turkey. Galatasaray won 3-0 in the Turkish cup final with Osimhen on target.
He ended his spell at the Turkish giants by scoring in the 2-0 win over Istanbul Basaksehir on Friday evening. Osimhen has since posted a wordless message to his Instagram story with the two trophies won very prominent which speaks volumes.
Osimhen returning on a permanent basis is considered highly unlikely despite the fact that he now has a clear love for Galaatsaray.
Speaking back in February, Osimhen said: “I don’t know [about the future], to be honest. A few months ago, nobody ever thought I would come to Galatasaray, despite how big of a club they are.
“I live for the moment. For what’s going to happen in the summer, I don’t know, but I want everyone to understand something: I really love this club so much. I love the fans, I love everyone associated with this club, from the president down to the coaching staff.”
Galatasaray players and supporters have certainly tried to convince him to stay as noted in a report by Turkish outlet Fanatik, but their attempts could be in vein.
They appear intent on signing a big name however, with it claimed Nkunku has been added to their shortlist. Fanatik have claimed that news of their decision hit ‘hit the agenda like a bombshell’ and that an offer will be made soon.
The France international is expected to depart Stamford Bridge this summer after another season of struggles. Bayern Munich and Tottenham have been linked with a summer move and now it appears Galatasaray have joined the race.
If Chelsea can recoup anywhere close to the £52million they paid RB Leipzig just a few years ago, it will be considered a good deal and that money can then be reinvested into the squad.
Liam Delap looks set to become the club’s first summer arrival and more are expected to follow with another striker addition not ruled out.
