Victor Osimhen ‘talks’ to begin as Jadon Sancho’s Chelsea transfer takes new twist

Chelsea’s hopes of finishing in the Champions League places took a significant hit on Sunday with the 2-0 defeat at Newcastle United.

Fortunately for Enzo Maresca’s side, Nottingham Forest’s draw at home to Leicester City keeps them inside the Champions League spots by the skin of their teeth. The next two matches are vital for Maresca when it comes to the budget that will be made available to him.

If they can finish inside that top five, one of the big moves of the summer could be made by them. Football.london has taken a closer look at that report and more below.

Osimhen talks to begin

According to Football Transfers, Chelsea are set to open talks with Victor Osimhen over a move this summer. It is claimed that the only major stumbling block between the Blues and Osimhen striking a deal is the Nigerian’s proposed wage of £10m per year.

Should Chelsea be able to bring that down significantly, they feel confident that Osimhen will be able to join. If they can’t negotiate him down, Chelsea are thought to be ready to look elsewhere.

What FL says: Chelsea have invested a lot of time in trying to sign Osimhen and you can see why, he is a brilliant goalscorer who is available at a relative steal at around the £60-65m mark. It is unsurprising that Chelsea want to talk the striker down from his £10m per year wage demands. If the Blues want to give him a long contract like we have seen with other recent signings, that figure is not viable. He is one of the best value for money strikers on the market in terms of price tag though so we will have to wait and see.

Sancho’s transfer takes new twist

According to Turkish journalist Arda Ozkurt, Galatasaray are observing the situation with Jadon Sancho ahead of the summer transfer window. It is believed they would be interested in approaching the Manchester United winger, who is currently obligated to sign for Chelsea, if the Blues choose to backtrack on a deal.

What FL says: Sancho’s form this season has not lived up to what many Chelsea fans had hoped. Ten assists across all competitions is fine but when half of those come in the Conference League, questions have to be asked on whether £25m for the winger is good value for money. The Premier League has simply not worked for Sancho and perhaps a move to Galatasaray would be in his best interest. As Osimhen has shown, the Istanbul club can revitalise a career.
