Arsenal have a week to recharge their batteries before they’re back in action. Southampton will host the Gunners at St. Mary’s on the final day of the Premier League season.

Mikel Arteta’s side have already secured qualification to the Champions League, beating Newcastle United 1-0 at the Emirates Stadium on Sunday afternoon. By snatching three points from the Magpies, the north Londoners also cemented a second-place finish for the third year in a row.

Mikel Arteta will be hoping to finally get his hands on the trophy next term, but he’ll need to some reinforcements to make it possible. So, with that being said, football.london has rounded up the latest Arsenal news and transfer gossip.

Gyokeres quizzed Arsenal switch

Speaking on Sport TV following Sporting CP’s 2-0 win over Vitória S.C. on Saturday afternoon, Viktor Gyokeres was quizzed on his future. As quoted by Portuguese outlet Record, the 26-year-old striker said: “It’s football, I’m still here. I don’t know what’s going to happen. Nobody can predict the future.”

According to Fabrizio Romano, Sporting have agreed to let Gyokeres leave the club this summer if his asking price, which is thought to be €65m (£54.6m), is met. The report claims that the club and the player reached an agreement on his exit terms earlier this season.

football.london says: “Viktor Gyokeres would be a sensational signing for Arsenal. The Gunners can’t afford to let this deal fall through. With a world-class striker, Mikel Arteta could finally his hands on a major trophy.”

Arteta and Rice send Berta clear message

Mikel Arteta and Declan Rice have fired Josh Kroenke a clear message ahead of the transfer window. Speaking to Sky Sports on Sunday afternoon, the Gunners boss was asked how significant this summer will be.

“Finish the season, go to the beach, enjoy a few days and make sure the ones upstairs – they do what they have to do,” said Arteta. Then, Rice later added: “Hopefully we strengthen… will probably lose a few [players]…”

football.london says: “If Andrea Berta doesn’t sign a world-class striker this summer, at the very least, then Mikel Arteta will never win the Premier League for Arsenal. It feels like it’s now or never. The Gunners have been so close to greatness for a while and strong reinforcements are long overdue.”

‘Arsenal work on signing Serie A star’

According to former Man United and Blackburn chief scout, Mick Brown, Arsenal have been weighing up a move for Rafael Leao from AC Milan. Speaking to Football Insider, he said: “Rafael Leao is one of the players Arsenal have been looking at.

“They have been looking at him since the start of the season and potentially beyond that, because it’s a position they are aware they have problems in.

“These decisions are made in the background over a period of time, they’re not reactionary. So they’ve been working behind the scenes, scouting him and figuring out what it would take to sign him.”

football.london says: “Rafael Leao would be a great signing, so long as Arsenal ALSO go and get Viktor Gyokeres. If the Gunners don’t have the budget for both, Liam Delap’s available for just £30m. That’s great value. He’d be more than good enough.”
