An update has been issued on when Arsenal could potentially sign Sporting striker Viktor Gyokeres.

The Sweden international has become one of Europe’s top strikers in recent seasons with an impressive record of 96 goals in 101 matches since his transfer to Liga Portugal from Coventry City in July 2023.

Sporting’s leading scorer has made a significant impact in the Portuguese top-flight this season, with 39 goals and eight assists in 33 appearances. The 26-year-old has been instrumental in Rui Borges’ squad, helping Sporting to clinch the league title.

Gyokeres is reported to have a €100million (£85.7m) release clause in his contract, but reports claim that Sporting are willing to accept a lower offer.

However, Portuguese publication A Bola claim that there will be no movement on Gyokeres’ future until after the Portuguese Cup final against Benfica on Sunday. The report adds that ‘no offers will arrive’, as potential suitors know that it is ‘the will’ of Sporting and the forward.

A separate report in Portuguese publication Correio da Manha claim that Arsenal have made a significant move for the star attacker. They suggest that the Gunners have already agreed personal terms with Gyokeres and are now pushing to have their bid accepted.

Arsenal have reportedly made an initial bid of £63.5m as they aim to swiftly conclude their business. However, Sporting president Frederico Varandas is thought to be prepared to negotiate further for his asset.

Due to an exceptional registration period for the expanded Club World Cup this summer, the transfer window will open early between Sunday, June 1 and Tuesday, June 10. It will then open again on Monday, June 16, until deadline day on Monday, September 1.
