Jadon Sancho’s future at Chelsea will be discussed in the aftermath of the Conference League final win over Real Betis, Enzo Maresca has confirmed.

The Blues rounded-off a brilliant end to the 2024/25 season by lifting the European trophy to become the first-ever team to win every competition in Europe. After qualifying for the Champions League at Nottingham Forest on Sunday, the Londoners came from behind to comfortably dispatch Betis 4-1 in Poland.

Enzo Fernandez, Nicolas Jackson, Sancho and Moises Caicedo were all on the scoresheet to win the club their first piece of silverware since they lifted the FIFA Club World Cup at the end of 2021.

In the aftermath of the win, Maresca was once again asked about his thoughts on keeping Sancho. Chelsea have an obligation to sign the England international for £25million after finishing higher than 14th in the Premier League but can also pull out of the deal with a £5m penalty.

Maresca confirmed, pre-Betis, that talks over Sancho’s future will commence 24-48 hours after the final. Speaking after the game, he said: “It’s not the moment we have tomorrow, final. Then in 24 hours, 48 hours, we’re going to start to talk about the future.”

After the game, BBC Sport went viral for joking that Sancho was on the phone to Manchester United boss Ruben Amorim telling him he ‘wasn’t returning to Old Trafford’.

A number of fans did not understand the joke, and were left confused by the post in the BBC’s match blog.

But it has now emerged exactly what Sancho said in the immediate aftermath of the result.

The Conference League official X page posted a video of Sancho, who recorded himself with his medal. After posing with goalkeeper Marcus Bettinelli, he said: “Obviously, final, 2025. Vamos! Champions!”
