Who Wants To Be A Millionaire: Man wins £32,000 with pure guess

Who Wants to Be a Millionaire viewers had deep sympathy with a contestant got a particularly tricky question – but managed to guess correctly.

How good are your general knowledge skills? Most of us would like to believe that if we came face-to-face with Who Wants to Be a Millionaire host Jeremy Clarkson we would be able to answer question-after-question correctly, and at the end take home the £1million prize pot.

But unfortunately, there’s no guarantee what sorts of questions you’ll be asked on the ITV show – and since only six contestants in the UK have ever taken home the top prize, it’s not going to be that easy.

With this particular question, viewers at home felt bad for the player, as some deemed it the ‘hardest ever’ question they’d seen on the show, with some even calling it ‘obscure’. On August 21, 2021, contestant Glen Bunnn returned to the screen after hitting the £32,000 milestone in the previous episode.

But when host Clarkson asked him the next question, he felt well and truly stumped, would you have progressed to the next level? Let’s see.

The question was as follows: “From the 2000 awards ceremony onwards, the Best Actress Oscar has never been won by a woman whose surname begins with which one of these letters?” The multiple choice answers were: A: G, B: K, C: M and D: W.

And remember, this question was posed in 2021, so you are looking between the years 2000 and 2021. Viewers were quick to take to social media afterwards to complain about the question.

One person wrote: “Worst question I have ever heard on a TV quiz show. So glad he guessed the correct answer,” while another said: “What a stupid first question,” and another described it as “awful” and “obscure”. You’ll find the answer below, so stop reading now if you want to keep working your way through the alphabet.

Glen said he was “drawing a blank” at the question, and struggled to to think of anyone who had won an Oscar with those letters. He then used his Phone a Friend lifeline – but unfortunately they had “no idea” either. Luckily, Glen managed to guess the answer correctly, and ended the night by taking home a whopping £125,000.

The correct answer was A: G. Nicole Kidman, Frances McDormand and Kate Winslet are among the actors who have won Best Actress within the relevant time period. But it would no doubt take a while to work it all out!

Did you manage to get the correct answer? Let us know in the comment section below.

Who Wants to Be a Millionaire airs tonight on ITV at 8pm.
