William Saliba was not in Arsenal’s squad for the Premier League clash with Chelsea at Stamford Bridge on Sunday

  • The injury: Saliba did not play for Arsenal due to an injury (a knock) picked up in training ahead of his side’s match against Chelsea on Sunday.
  • What Arteta said: “Yesterday in training he was uncomfortable, so we need to explore a little bit more what happened. “I don’t think it’s something major, but enough not to be involved in the game.”
  • Who played instead: Due to the simultaneous injuries to both Saliba and his regular partner Gabriel Magalhaes, Arsenal’s central defensive pairing for the match against Chelsea was made up of two players who are relatively new to the squad in Cristhian Mosquera and Piero Hincapie.
  • Gabriel latest: Having suffered a muscular problem, Saliba’s centre-back partner Gabriel remains out with an injury of his own with Gunners boss Arteta saying recently the Brazil star is “evolving really, really well.”
  • Arteta double boost: Despite having Saliba out injured, Arteta was handed a double boost with Viktor Gyokeres and Gabriel Jesus returning from their respective injuries to make the bench for the Chelsea clash.
