William Saliba was the first Arsenal star to issue a response to Kieran Tierney’s emotional exit statement with his return to Celtic confirmed earlier this week.

The left-back joined Arsenal from the Scottish club back in 2019 and endured quite a mixed spell in north London. Injury and a major change in system saw his minutes diminish but he was able to sign off in style with a goal on his final appearance in the 2-1 win against Southampton.

Months prior to that, he was able to sign a pre-contract agreement with Celtic as his current Arsenal deal was expiring on June 30. Back in early June, the club confirmed he was one player set to depart as a free agent alongside experienced midfielder Jorginho.

The latter’s move to Brazilian outfit Flamengo and his heartfelt message to Arsenal was posted on Instagram last month and now Tierney has followed suit.

“Full of emotions these last few weeks! To be part of this special club for 6 years has meant so much to me and I’m grateful for every single second of it,” he wrote as part of an Instagram caption alongside a lengthy video of his highlights.

“To every member of staff and teammate I’ve had the pleasure of working with, thank you for everything you’ve done for me. I’m so lucky to have worked with many amazing people who I learned so much from and helped me every day.

“To the fans, what a journey these last 6 years have been. All I can really say is thank you for the support and love you’ve given me through the good and the bad times. I appreciated everything and never took any of it for granted. It’s been fun.

“North London forever [red heart emoji].”

Just a few hours after that was uploaded, Saliba showed his true colours with a four-word reply. He said: “Good luck my guy [red heart and hands together emoji].”

Though his departure was made official by the club prior to his own message, it is clear he leaves with the well-wishes of his former teammates.

Another first team star that could move on as a free agent is Thomas Partey, with his current contract ending this month. However, regarding his future, it was stated that, “discussions are ongoing, and once matters are finalised between all parties, we will communicate in due course”.

Barcelona have held talks with his representatives but it looks as though he will stay at Emirates Stadium with Mikel Arteta wanting both him and Martin Zubimendi in his squad for the 2025/26 campaign.
