Alan Shearer and Paul Merson have had their say on the Everton vs Tottenham Hotspur Premier League fixture

Tottenham are without a win in two games after their loss to Aston Villa last weekend and draw to Monaco in midweek. But Thomas Frank knows he can return to winning ways this weekend with his side facing Everton in the Premier League on Sunday.

Everton started the season well under David Moyes and on the whole have been impressive, with wins against Brighton, Wolves and Crystal Palace already on the board. It will be the first time Spurs have visited the Hill Dickinson Stadium, with Everton unbeaten at their new ground since it opened.

Tottenham will fancy their chances, however, despite being without the likes of Cristian Romero, Destiny Udogie and Dominic Solanke. Alan Shearer believes Jack Grealish will be a big player for the home side and is backing Everton to come away with all three points.

Speaking to Betfair, Shearer said: “Spurs have had to travel, so I guess from that perspective it will be a tough one. Jack Grealish will be back for Everton – they missed him last week at City.

“I think with Everton at home it’s difficult to go against them, even if it’s against a Champions League team. I just think with Spurs playing a really tough game in Monaco, then travelling to Everton is tough so I’m going to go for a home win. Prediction – Everton win.”

Paul Merson, meanwhile, is predicting an entertaining draw. In his Sportskeeda column, Merson said: “Tottenham still have that ‘Spursy’ mentality in them, don’t they? They got a late draw against struggling Wolves, were lucky again in the draw vs Bodo/Glimt, won at Leeds but then got the lead versus Aston Villa before losing that game last weekend! Even in the Champions League game against Monaco on Wednesday night, they were held to a draw and conceded many chances.

“Everton started well but have hit a blip now. They need a result and they need it quick. Jack Grealish returning to the team will make a difference, and he will cause Spurs problems. But the problem for Everton is that they don’t have a centre-forward! No disrespect to Beto, but he’s not good enough to win games for Everton.

“Tottenham perform better when the spotlight is not on them. But it will be the opposite here because they need to get back to winning ways. I think this will be an entertaining draw. Prediction: Everton 2-2 Tottenham Hotspur.”
