There are thousands of people expected to hit major roads around London and the rest of the country today, Friday, July 26, and over the weekend. The RAC has estimated that 13.8 million motorists in the UK will embark on leisure trips between Friday and Sunday.

Congestion could peak on Friday as commuters driving home from work will compete for road space with at least 3.2 million drivers making leisure journeys such as to airports, for holidays within the UK, or day trips. Traffic on routes serving popular seaside towns is expected to build from Friday afternoon.

There is currently heavy traffic around the Dartford Crossing on the M25, with current travel times estimated at 35 minutes. There are also delays on the major motorway in Surrey, Kent and Essex.

However, it’s not just the roads that are being affected today. The Eurostar is reporting severe delays, along with cancellations today.

Many people will be attempting to board the train, which takes passengers to Paris and other destinations in Europe. According to traffic monitoring service Inrix, the delays have been caused by vandalism in France, causing trains to divert.
