Woman arrested following horror M1 multi-vehicle crash near Watford

A woman has been arrested following a horror multi-vehicle which saw four people injured on Friday (May 2). One woman was left with such serious injuries that she had to be air-lifted to hospital.

Five vehicles, including a skip loader, were involved in the crash on the M1 at Junction Five near Watford at around 4.40pm last Friday. Two were seriously injured in the crash, while three also sustained minor injuries.

The woman driving the Fiesta has been arrested for serious injury by dangerous driving. Police have confirmed that a white Ford Fiesta, a skip loader, a blue Mini Cooper, a black Ford Focus and a black Volvo XC90 were involved in the crash.

Sergeant David McIlwhan from the Bedfordshire, Cambridgeshire and Hertfordshire Road Policing Unit, said: “The road was busy at the time and I would appeal to anyone who saw what happened to please make contact.

The crash left the M1 southbound blocked for several hours on Friday. Motorists also saw a heavy emergency services presence at the scene including at least six fire engines, five ambulances and 10 plus police cars.
