Viktor Gyokeres’ name is likely to be the talk of the summer transfer window.
Arsenal have been long-term admirers of the Swedish striker, looking at him during the last summer transfer window. Now, with signing a striker more important than ever for the Gunners, Gyokeres is once again being heavily linked with a move to the Emirates Stadium.
However, Arsenal are not the only interested party, which is hardly surprising given the season he has just had for Sporting CP. Gyokeres netted an astonishing 54 goals in 52 games in all competitions, with 13 assists for good measure too.
That is added to the 43 goals and 15 assists he got in 50 games last season.
Gyokeres has a €100million (£83.7million) release clause, but there is an agreement between the club and the player that he can leave if a club comes in with an offer or more than €65million (£54.4million), according to reports.
That figure is much less than what was touted last season and Arsenal could very well get themselves a bargain if they are to win the race for his signature.
However, there has been a twist, with Record in Portugal revealing that Chelsea have made an enquiry to sign the 26-year-old this summer.
Chelsea are also in the market for a new No.9 to ease the burden on Nicolas Jackson’s shoulders. There is also an enquiry from Juventus, meaning Arsenal may have to act quickly to get a deal done.
The summer transfer window opens on June 1, for ten days, to allow clubs competing in the FIFA Club World Cup to add to their squads ahead of the tournament.
It will then reopen again on June 16 for the rest of the summer. Gyokeres will be on international duty with Sweden for games on Friday, June 6 and Tuesday, June 10, before heading off on holiday.
