Chelsea head into this summer’s Club World Cup with plenty of confidence after a strong end to the season.
The Blues wrapped up a top five finish and a spot in next season’s Champions League and won their first trophy since 2021 after lifting the Europa Conference League. Focus will now be on adding more silverware in America with Enzo Maresca’s side begining their Club World Cup campaign against Leon on June 16.
Maresca will hope to have several new additions to his squad by the time Chelsea fly stateside with Jamie Gittens and Mike Maignan among the players being linked. Below are some of the latest Chelsea headlines as well as a view on each one…
Gittens latest
Sky Sports reports that Chelsea have had an initial offer of €35million (£29.5m) for Jamie Gittens rejected by Borussia Dortmund.
Negotiations are said to be ongoing between the parties and a new bid from the Blues is expected. It is claimed that Dortmund are wanting €50-60m (£42-50m) for the forward.
Isaac Seelochan of football.london says:“Gittens would be a smart signing for Chelsea if they can get him. He certainly has a higher upside than Jadon Sancho which explains why they did not sign him.”
Aghehowa interest
Chelsea are reportedly among several Premier League clubs interested in FC Porto striker Samu Aghehowa.
CaughtOffside claim that Aston Villa, West Ham, Manchester United, and Arsenal are also closely following the Spanish striker’s situation. It is claimed that Porto want to recoup around €70-75m (£63m) for the young striker, and they are in no rush to sell him. The player has a €100m (£84m) release clause in his contract.
Isaac Seelochan of football.london says:“Aghehowa is unproven at the highest level but he has the physical attributes to potentially succeed in the Premier League.”
