Arsenal have secret weapon in Jamal Musiala transfer battle with Liverpool and Man City

By Staff

Mikel Arteta and Edu are likely to be busy in the summer transfer window, regardless of whether Arsenal manage to hold off Liverpool and Manchester City in the Premier League title race this season. The Gunners have been tipped to make a move for a new striker, with question marks over Gabriel Jesus and Eddie Nketiah.

Kai Havertz has been scoring goals of late, but Arteta has also utilised him in a midfield role. Arsenal were struggling for goals until the turn of the year, but have since scored a whopping 33 goals in eight Premier League games.

The goals have been spread around the team, but the feeling remains that a world-class striker is what’s required to almost complete Arteta’s team. However, there will be other roles in the team to fill and Arteta will be looking to add strength in depth across the park, particularly with players likely to leave the Emirates Stadium in the summer and with the Gunners hoping to challenge on all fronts once again.

Jamal Musiala is a name that has been linked with a move to the Premier League, given there is something of an impasse over a new contract with Bayern Munich. His current deal runs until 2026, giving the German giants the power in negotiations, but he is understood to have rejected a new offer in Bavaria, opening the door to Premier League teams.

Manchester City and Liverpool have been widely tipped to hold an interest, but Arsenal could have a secret weapon should they want to make a move for Musiala.

The 21-year-old has 17 goal involvements in 31 games for Bayern this season – scoring ten and assisting seven. He is widely regarded as one of Europe’s leading talents and signing him would be something of a coup for the Gunners.

Their secret weapon comes in the form of Mika Biereth – himself impressing in Europe this year. On loan at Sturm Graz, Biereth has 20 goal involvements in 26 matches – 14 goals and six assists.

And he has revealed that Musiala is his best friend. Arsenal can use that to their advantage should they wish to enter negotiations ahead of the likes of Liverpool and Man City.

Speaking to Tipsbladet while on international duty, Biereth said: “Jamal Musiala is my best friend. We grew up together and went to school together. I played with him at Chelsea. He is truly like a brother to me, and we are in contact every single day. In fact, I spoke with him 10 minutes before this interview. I congratulated him on playing as number 10 for Germany in the Euros.

“Our relationship isn’t so much about football. Of course, we talk about football and support each other, but most of the time we talk about all sorts of other things.

“As I said, we rarely talk about football, and I actually think it helps keep us sharp. Often, you get deeply sucked into all this football stuff, and it’s nice to have someone you can talk about anything else with.”
