One of Queen Camilla’s royal aides – equerry Major Ollie Plunket – has garnered a seriously dedicated royal fan base of his own, thanks to his ‘dashing’ good looks

The Royal Family is definitely not short on members of staff, but their equerries play one of the most crucial roles of all their many employees.

Officers from the armed forces are generally selected for this role for a three-year secondment period, and it’s said that the monarch hand-picks them, making it a huge honour. The equerry is in charge of assisting the royals in their public work and day-to-day activities, like helping to manage their diaries.

Queen Camilla’s royal equerry – Major Ollie Plunkett – first started to catch the eye of royal fans during the coronation ceremony in 2023, but he has reportedly been in the role since November 2022, shortly after Camilla became Queen Consort after the death of Queen Elizabeth. His “dashing” good looks mean that his presence at royal events has certainly been appreciated by royal watchers, but not much is known about the accomplished military man.

As reported in OK! Magazine, Major Ollie Plunket has never been afraid of an adventure, and before he even started military training, he took on a serious challenge that would get most people’s adrenaline pumping – and it was for a good cause. When he was only 18 years old he is said to have travelled all the way from Argentina to Alaska – completely by himself – on a motorbike to raise money for charity.

Taking more than seven months and crossing a whopping 40,000km of different terrains, he raised an incredible sum for military families: over £100,000. The money raised went to Fisher House Foundation, which supports families of service people being treated in the Queen Elizabeth Hospital, in Birmingham.

This was no mean feat, especially for a teenager, and Major Ollie has reportedly said about the adventure: “I’ve ridden some amazing roads with incredible scenery. I have enjoyed the challenge immensely but always in my mind was the fact that I was doing this for the troops and their families.”

After this huge personal challenge, he went on to study at Exeter University where he had an army scholarship, and he now serves in The Rifles – the largest infantry regiment in the Army – of which Camilla is Colonel-in-Chief, an honorary role she has held for the last four years, taking over from Prince Philip.

When royal fans spotted Major Ollie Plunket at the coronation one quickly asked “Who’s the hot guy in front of Charles?” with another posting “I think a Royal Equerry Appreciation Society is needed”. Queen Camilla’s equerry isn’t the first officer in this role in the royal households who have captured the imaginations of royal watchers.

King Charles’ equerry, Lieutenant Colonel Jonathan Thompson was quickly dubbed the “hot equerry” for his good looks. However, the Mail reports that he was moved to a less “public-facing” role in February 2024, because the officer serving in the 5th Battalion Royal Regiment of Scotland didn’t appreciate his online fan club’s attention, so whilst he remains a senior equerry, he will – the report claims – work more often behind the scenes.
