Facebook, Instagram and Messenger are down for users across the world. Reports to Downdetector rocketed just after 2pm on Wednesday.

Latest figures on the site which monitors outages show by 3pm there had been almost 1,000 reports on Facebook alone. Meta’s other platforms Messenger and Instagram both also had hundreds of reports of it being down at about the same time with Messenger having more than 800 and Instagra over 300.

The cause of the problem has not yet been announced however it comes just over two weeks after the sites were last offline as a result of an internal issue.

Almost two-thirds of the reports submitted by users to DownDetector show all three platforms are not working correctly on apps. Many Facebook users are also seeing notifications that their accounts have been suspended or their session has expired.

On Messenger people are reporting that they are being shown as being “unavailable to friends”. Others have said while they can send messages people cannot reply. Instagram users are mainly having problems with adding comments, messaging and the News Feed.
