Frightening moment plane aborts landing at London Gatwick amid high winds

A plane has been forced to abort a landing at Gatwick Airport amid high winds. Video footage shows the moment the flight’s pilot decided to pull up.

Storm Nelson battered Britain with high winds and heavy rain today. easyJet has now confirmed to MyLondon that flight EZY52FR from Faro in Portugal attempted to land in hazardous weather conditions, with the Captain carrying out a ‘go around’.

The airline added that the safety of its passengers is its ‘top priority’. The Daily Mail reports that the incident occurred just after 12.30pm, with the Airbus A320 ‘circling around’ West Sussex for ten minutes beforehand.

The newspaper adds that it then landed successfully on the second attempt.

A spokesperson for easyjet said: “easyJet can confirm that the Captain of flight EZY8530 from Faro to London Gatwick today performed a ‘go around’ on landing due to the weather conditions at Gatwick. The Captain took the decision as precaution and the aircraft then landed routinely.

“The safety of its passengers and crew is the airline’s highest priority.”

Adverse weather caused havoc in the UK today, closing parks and cancelling ferries as and rail operators warned of delays. The Met Office issued a warning covering the whole of the country’s south coast from until midnight.
