The government has shared three separate flood alerts for London. The first warning covers the area from Putney Bridge to Teddington Weir.

The warning over high waters ran from 3.30am this morning (March 12) and will last up until 4.15pm. Homes should be safe, but low-lying footpaths could well be flooded until after 6pm.

The areas likely to flood are: Putney Embankment, Chiswick Mall and Strand on the Green, Thames Bank at Mortlake, Ranelagh Drive in Twickenham, Friars Lane and Water Lane, Riverside and The Embankment at Twickenham, and the Towpath below Teddington Lock.

The next warning covers the area from the Thames Barrier in Charlton, to Putney Bridge. That is expected to be in place until around 3.15pm. Again, it is likely that low lying footpaths will flood, but not homes.

The areas running a risk of flooding are: Custom House, Narrow Street in E14, the Mayflower and Angel pubs in Bermondsey, Royal Naval College riverfront, the Almshouse Slipway at Crane Street, Greenwich, Bankside by the Tate Modern, and Three Mill Island in Bow.

Parts of South East London also face risk from groundwater flooding due to heavy rainfall in recent times. Those with low lying basements near to Purley and the surrounding areas face particular risk, however flooding of gardens and low lying land elsewhere is not expected right now.

The areas at risk are: Caterham Bourne, Coulsdon Bourne, Beddington, Carshalton, Coulsdon, Kenley, Purley, South Croydon, Whyteleafe, Bromley, Bexley, Greenwich, and Lewisham. You can sign up for flood warnings and alerts here.
