Harry Kane handed dream Champions League scenario as Tottenham legend can inflict Arsenal pain

By Staff

Harry Kane and Eric Dier will come face-to-face with old foes Arsenal in the Champions League next month. Following the conclusion of the Round of 16 this week, the quarter-final draw on Friday morning paired Bayern Munich against Mikel Arteta’s team.

For former Tottenham pair Kane and Dier, it means a clash against fierce rivals Arsenal as they bid to go all the way and reach the Champions League final at Wembley on Saturday, June 1. Kane and Dier are no strangers at all to coming up against the Gunners and all Tottenham fans will no doubt be cheering them on when they meet in early April.

Kane could prove to be a pivotal figure in the Champions League quarter-final tie due to his prolific record against Arsenal during his time with Tottenham. On the scoresheet 14 times in 19 appearances against Spurs’ big rivals, the England captain is also the all-time top goalscorer in the North London Derby.

Kane has continued to plunder goals for fun following his summer switch to the Allianz Arena. In his 34 games to date for the German giants, the 30-year-old has 36 goals and 11 assists to his name in his debut campaign at the club.

Six of those goals have come in the Champions League, with the striker hitting a double in their crucial 3-0 home win over Lazio in the second leg of their Round of 16 tie. Looking extremely unlikely to win the Bundesliga in his first year in Germany with Bayer Leverkusen in pole position and having a rather healthy ten-point lead going into the run-in, the Champions League is perhaps Kane’s most realistic chance of winning silverware this term.

Bayern have enjoyed coming up against Arsenal in Europe’s premier competition in the past, notably beating them 10-2 on aggregate at the Round of 16 stage during the 2016/17 season and also registering a 5-1 win over the north London club in the group phase a year earlier. The first game between the two in this season’s competition will be at the Emirates Stadium week commencing Monday, April 8, with the second leg in Germany taking place the following week.

The winners of the tie will then come up against either Real Madrid or Man City in the semi-finals of the competition. All eyes will very much be on the Champions League tie between Arsenal and Bayern Munich next month, with Kane having the perfect opportunity to inflict more pain on Tottenham’s great rivals.
