I’ve played for Jose Mourinho and Mauricio Pochettino but my current manager is by far the best

Former Tottenham Hotspur midfielder Harry Winks has said that his current manager – Enzo Maresca – is by far the best manager he has played for.

Winks completed a £10 million move away from the Tottenham Hotspur Stadium in the summer, joining Leicester as they look to bounce straight back to the Premier League at the first time of asking. The midfielder has been a key part of the Foxes’ push for promotion this season, playing in the midfield pivot role.

He was taken to Leicester by Maresca in what is just the Italian’s second permanent managerial position. During his time at Spurs, Winks played under both Mauricio Pochettino and Jose Mourinho, but he rates his current manager higher than both of those coaches.

“[He’s] by far the best manager I’ve worked for, he’s incredible, I think everyone will say he’s going right to the top, he’s got everything,” Winks said of Maresca on Sky Sports. “He’s a great man manager, he’s tactically incredible, some of the decisions he tells us to do before the game and how you view the matches and it’s something that I’ve never experienced before in football.

“It’s opened my eyes a lot to football and the way it’s played, that kind of Pep Guardiola style as well, who he worked with for a very long time. I’m loving my football, it works perfectly for me, it’s exactly the kind of football that I want to play and I buy into and since he’s come in I’ve learned so much and will continue to do that.”

Winks played a total of 203 times for Spurs during his time at the club, scoring five goals. His appearances include a place in the starting line up in the 2019 Champions League final.
