London Underground strikes could mean queues for buses, Elizabeth line and late trains

TfL may have to implement queueing systems at its stations if planned strikes by ASLEF on the London Underground go ahead. Train drivers are due to walk out on Monday, April 8, and Saturday, May 4.

This would bring widespread disruption to services across the capital. Officials say ‘little to no’ trains would be running.

In an email to customers today, TfL advised: “If these strikes go ahead, there will be severe disruption across the London Underground network, with little or no service expected on some lines, on these days. No other TfL services are on strike, but they will be busier than normal and queuing systems may also be in place.”

Officials also warned that on the days after the strikes (Tuesday, April 9, and Sunday, May 5) Tube services ‘may start later than normal’. But, bosses expect that a good service will be running by mid-morning.

Customers who need to travel on these days have been advised to plan ahead, consider alternative routes including walking and cycling, check before they travel and allow more time for their journey.

Meanwhile, strikes are planned by ASLEF on National Rail services between Thursday 4 April and Tuesday 9 April. Levels of disruption, officials say, will ‘vary’ on each of these days, with no services in some places.

Northern line closure

Between Tuesday, April 2 and Thursday, April 11, TfL says there will be no service between Golders Green and Edgware. Rail replacement bus NL1 will run between Canons Park (for the Jubilee line) and Golders Green.

For Brent Cross station, NL1 will stop on Golders Green Road stops C and P, near Highfield Avenue. Alternatively, customers will be able to use local bus routes to connect with nearby Jubilee line or Thameslink services.

Customers travelling from Central London have been advised to use the Northern line to Golders Green or Jubilee line to Canons Park to connect with rail replacement buses. TfL added in its advisory email: “This is part of works on the Northern line to support the Colindale station upgrade. In addition, bosses have apologised for ‘continued disruption’ on the Central line. Officials said: “We are working round the clock to address the issues, which has helped deliver a more reliable service, while ensuring the safety of our customers and colleagues.”
