Meghan Markle slammed for ‘exploiting royal status for money’ as new venture revealed

A royal expert has denounced Meghan Markle’s new business venture as a way to “exploit” her royal status “for monetary gain” as she launches a new lifestyle brand. Meghan launched her new brand, American Riveria Orchard, via Instagram on Thursday after previously giving up her blog, The Tig, when she became engaged to Prince Harry.

Royal expert Richard Cole argued that giving up any business ventures is the right thing to do when marrying into the Royal Family, as it’s not typical for members of The Firm to be seen running businesses. He explained to GB News: “Sophie the Duchess of Edinburgh had to give up her PR business, Peter Philips the son of Princess Anne gave up advertising milk in China.

“Laughably, when Prince Michael of Kent opened the Happy Eater on the A3 near Guildford they were laughed out of court. But this, of course, is being sold very much as Meghan Markle, Duchess of Sussex.”

He said American Riviera Orchard is just a “revival” of The Tig “to sell products”. The name comes from a part of coastline in Santa Barbara, the county where the couple live in the town of Montecito.

Cole added: “They’re out there flogging product, such as expensive jam and essential things like napkin rings. We all need plenty of those, don’t we? So they’re going out to make money out of their royal status.”

Royal expert Richard Fitzwilliams also commented on the brand’s launch, saying it was “no accident” that the Duchess chose to launch it seemingly out of the blue.

He told the Daily Mail: “The Sussexes, in my opinion, do nothing by accident and timing is often absolutely pivotal. We found that out one way over the weekend and we’ve now just been reminded that there may be more shots in their locker than some of us thought. And it’s no accident.”

However, the brand remains elusive as of yet, with very few posts on its Instagram account and a similarly bare website. At this point, most people are just speculating as to what they think American Riviera Orchard will become.

Page Six claimed it would focus on home, garden, and food content, selling products related to these three categories, such as cookbooks and kitchenware.
