Arsenal might have been handed an unexpected boost in their summer transfer window plans. The Gunners are expected to be busy in the market once again this year after spending £250million last summer.

Mikel Arteta added Declan Rice, Kai Havertz, Jurrien Timber and David Raya to his squad this season and the north Londoners have continued their impressive upward trajectory.

Arsenal are currently top of the Premier League table and in the last eight of the UEFA Champions League. Depending on how the 2023/24 season concludes, the Gunners will look to make further improvements to the playing squad.

A new midfielder and striker has been earmarked as two priority positions for the summer. Arsenal’s hopes of finally landing Bruno Guimaraes could finally come to fruition amid Newcastle’s Financial Fair Play (FFP) concerns.

The midfielder was linked with a transfer to the Emirates Stadium prior to his move to Newcastle. He has continued his impressive displays on Tyneside to make him one of the likely candidates to be sold to ensure the Magpies comply with the Premier League profitability & sustainability rules (PSR).

Alexander Isak and Sven Botman have also been linked with big-money moves away. However, an injury to Botman may force Newcastle to consider any offers for Guimaraes.

The club confirmed Botman’s ACL injury on Wednesday afternoon. The defender will be out of action for up to nine months, meaning a move in the summer is out of the question.

That means Guimaraes could be sold in the summer. The Brazilian is understood to have a release clause of £98million – payable in three instalments – meaning he would cost Arsenal a hefty amount.

In January, it was said that Liverpool, PSG, Barcelona and Chelsea were ‘expected to attack’ for his signature at the end of the season. However, Arteta’s desire for another quality midfielder could see a deal concluded in north London.
