Conor Gallagher joins Tottenham, Omari Hutchinson exit – Four summer deals Chelsea may regret

By Staff

Chelsea have reached Wembley for a second time this season under Mauricio Pochettino but with 11 games to go in the Premier League, there remains plenty of work still to do before the end of the season. However, attention will turn to the summer swiftly, especially with the shortcomings of the squad revealing themselves so repetitively.

Nothing can escape the reality of how much Chelsea have already spent in the market but there is a feeling that more is still needed. Whilst Todd Boehly is surely willing to invest, to stay within the realms of Profit and Sustainability Regulations the Blues are surely going to have to sell.

Several players have already been referenced regarding a summer exit and with that in mind takes a look at four players who the club might need to reconsider selling. The impact of Jorginho and Kai Havertz at Arsenal has already seen many Chelsea fans in a state of regret but will there be more to add to the list?

Conor Gallagher

One of the most consistent performers this season for Chelsea has been Conor Gallagher. The England international has formed a good midfield partnership with Moises Caicedo and Enzo Fernandez but with the need to find a more natural creative number 10 he could be sold.

Tottenham have been the club most notably showing an interest in Gallagher and would add him to a midfield with James Maddison and Yves Bissouma. Spurs are one of Chelsea’s key rivals in returning to the Champions League qualification spots.

Could letting Gallagher make a switch across London come back to bite them? With so much turnover in Stamford Bridge, keeping Gallagher certainly makes a lot of sense.

Omari Hutchinson

Having signed from Arsenal, the hope of more senior first-team appearances has not necessarily gone to plan for Omari Hutchinson. That said, he has spent the season on loan with Ipswich Town and helped them massively as they push for promotion to the Premier League.

Despite his good form, there is no guarantee of a place in the team for next season and therefore the club might be open to offers. It is said that clubs on the continent are monitoring Hutchinson and based on his form it is hardly a surprise.

There is talent there, and given the right club it could be unleashed to great reward. If Chelsea cannot find the room and let him go, it could be one they live to regret.

Trevoh Chalobah

Trevoh Chalobah has found his way back into the scene with Chelsea again and is now in the starting line-up and impressing. However, for some time it looked like he might yet leave the club with Bayern Munich said to have been keen on the England youth international.

With so many defensive options in Benoit Badiashile, Thiago Silva, Axel Disasi, Levi Colwill, Wesley Fofana and the forgotten man Malang Sarr, it looked like Chalobah would be swallowed up amongst the investment in the position. Furthermore, the pining for another defender has not stopped and Pochettino was again asked about the topic after the 4-2 win over Leicester.

Chalobah surprised many when he burst on the scene and displayed the talent that was ready to be utilised. Selling him might bring good profit but it could be a move the club look back and wonder if they had their future centre-half at the club already.

Mykhailo Mudryk

The curious case of Mykhailo Mudryk has been one which has not stopped asking questions since he arrived last year. After a year, there are arguably less certainties about the Ukrainian compared to when he arrived and in January there were even suggestions that Arsenal could still be keen on signing him.

Mudryk has shown promise this season from the bench, most recently against Newcastle United, but still lacks the convincing consistency to get the majority on board. However, there remains the risk that should he be sold his talent could be realised elsewhere.
