Erling Haaland breaks silence on injury fears ahead of Man City vs Arsenal title showdown

Manchester City striker Erling Haaland has eased fears that he suffered an injury while on international duty with Norway.

The 23-year-old was seen limping in training during the week, sparking fears that he may have picked up a fresh injury. But the Norwegian has insisted he is fine and will play a part in Norway’s friendly with the Czech Republic on Friday.

Speaking to the press ahead of the friendly, TV2 quote Haaland as saying: “I’m feeling fine. I didn’t walk off the training. I don’t know who wrote that. I trained a full training session. I feel good and am ready to play the match.”

Speaking mostly about Norway during the press conference, under instruction from the Norwegian FA, Haaland did give a diplomatic answer when comparing City teammate Kevin De Bruyne to compatriot and Arsenal captain Martin Odegaard, saying he enjoys playing with both. The striker also admitted he received a parting joke from City boss Pep Guardiola.

“[He said] ‘if one of you comes back not fresh, I will come after you,’ and smiled,” said the striker.

Man City welcome Arsenal to Etihad Stadium on March 31 in what is a top of the table clash. The Gunners currently lead the way with 64 points, while Liverpool are second on goal difference. Guardiola’s side are third and just one point off Arsenal and Liverpool.

Before the break, Guardiola had mentioned that he can’t control Haaland’s playing time for Norway but encouraged his players to be smart about their workload. He said last Saturday: “He is not my player anymore from now on, what they will decide will be fine.

“They know that they fought a lot and train a lot, a lot of adrenaline and concentration to arrive in this position. They know they are friendly games and they have to handle it wisely. Hopefully they can do it.”
