Sterling and Gallagher slammed by the MOTD punditry team

Speaking on BBC One at half time, Gary Lineker questioned why Raeheem Sterling took the penalty off Cole Palmer in the first-half. The former Leicester City and Tottenham Hotspur striker described the handover as ‘strange’.

“Palmer’s with the ball there, Sterling grabs it off him pretty much – or persuades him to give it to him,” said Lineker. “Palmer’s scored five out of five. Sterling’s five out of his last seven. Strange decision.”

Jimmy Floyd Hasselbaink added: “Palmer is the penalty taker. I used to be a penalty taker. Now, at 1-0, I am not giving that up as a penalty taker. It doesn’t matter if somebody is asking. I’d think about it and comeback with, ‘No!’ you know.”

“Gallagher, as a captain, you should go to Sterling and say, ‘No, he’s the penalty taker. He’s taken five in a row, he’s scored all five. He needs to take it, it’s 1-0. Lets secure this mess first’.”
