England are in quarter-final action at the UEFA U21 European Championships on Saturday evening, with a blockbuster clash against Spain.
Lee Carsley’s side progressed to the knockout stages despite winning just one of their three group matches. They cruised past Czech Republic 3-1 in their opening game, before being held to a 0-0 draw by Slovenia last Sunday.
On Wednesday, they were narrowly beaten 2-1 by Germany, having gone two goals down before half-time. A second-half strike from Alex Scott hinted at a potential comeback, but England were unable to find the equaliser.
Nonetheless, qualification was secured, and they now face Spain – a side they narrowly beat 1-0 in the final of this competition back in 2023. Other quarter-finalists include Portugal, the Netherlands, Denmark, France, Germany, and Italy.
The winner of Spain vs England will face either Portugal or the Netherlands in the semi-finals.
