Mikel Arteta could be without as many as four players when Arsenal lock horns with Manchester City on March 31. The Gunners will welcome Pep Guardiola’s side to the Emirates Stadium after the international break, with three crucial points up for grabs in the Premier League title race.

Arsenal are currently top of the table, but the reigning champions trail by just one point. Not much separates the two teams so any slight inconvenience or injury blow will prove decisive.

With that being said, the north Londoners could be without four players later this month. The first of which being Gabriel Magalhaes, who’s been omitted from the Brazil squad. The 26-year-old defender had earned a call-up from Dorival Júnior but, after suffering an injury, he’s been replaced by Gleison Bremer.

“I had already communicated previously that we work with a slightly more extensive list,” said Júnior in an interview with the Brazil Football Federation website. “A pre-call, we can put it that way, and again, today, we had another casualty. Unfortunately, Gabriel Magalhães is uncalled. In his place, we are calling Bremer, from Juventus Turin, from Italy.”

Gabriel will miss two games for his country over the break; a clash against England at Wembley on Saturday, March 23, and Spain at the Santiago Bernabeu on Tuesday, March 26. understands that the Arsenal defender’s withdrawal was simply precautionary.

He’s still to be assessed by Arsenal staff and, with the Brazil fixtures friendlies, Júnior and his staff were happy for him to return to London Colney. Thomas Partey has also emerged as a doubt for the Manchester City clash.

Gabriel Martinelli could also miss the Premier League title showdown at the end of the month.

The 22-year-old winger was not involved against either Brentford or Porto. spotted him walking through the mixed-zone on crutches after the Bees clash, before sitting out of the Champions League round of 16 second leg.

One player who will certainly miss the Manchester City clash is Jurrien Timber. The 22-year-old defender, who joined Arsenal from Ajax in summer, suffered a nasty injury on the opening weekend of the Premier League season.

Following scans and further assessments, the north London outfit later revealed that Timber ruptured his anterior cruciate ligament – an injury which is set to keep him out of action for a large chunk of the season. The Netherlands international has recently returned to training as he continues his recovery, but he won’t be ready to face the reigning champions.
