Liverpool can give Arsenal unexpected title boost as Jurgen Klopp offers Tottenham incentive

By Staff

Arsenal have guaranteed that the Premier League title race will go to the final day of the season after they managed to scrape past Manchester United and claim a priceless three points at Old Trafford. The result means that Manchester City will need to win their game in hand against Tottenham on Tuesday night in order to go into the last round of fixtures as league leaders and with the advantage.

The final day sees Arsenal host Everton and City take on West Ham at the Etihad Stadium. David Moyes has already said that it is difficult to stop City’s under-14s let alone their senior side, doing very little to give the Gunners confidence of a favour from their fellow Londoners.

Therefore, the clash across from their home patch in Tottenham could be their last hope. Many will ask why on Earth Spurs would want to do Arsenal any favours but it may be unintentional with plenty still on the line for themselves.

Hence why on Monday night, Arsenal will be hoping for their former title rivals Liverpool, who they eliminated from the race this past weekend, will win against Aston Villa. Unai Emery travels to Anfield knowing that should they win, they confirm a top-four spot and a place in next season’s Champions League.

However, should Jurgen Klopp’s side win, Villa could go to within just one point of their top-four rivals Spurs if Ange Postecoglou is able to beat Manchester City this weekend. There is the motivation for Tottenham.

Whilst it should be said that Spurs could still fall out of the top six before the season finishes if they lose their next two games and both Newcastle United and Chelsea win their final two games, the likelihood that a single Liverpool win gives them far greater motivation to beat Man City is greater.

Spurs defender Micky van de Ven has already given Arsenal much more confidence than Moyes did. The Dutch international has spoken openly of a desire to try and qualify for Europe’s elite competition.

“Hopefully we can win the upcoming matches and give ourselves a chance of qualifying for the Champions League,” the Dutch defender told Premier League Productions. “We saw today Man City are an unbelievable team and they play really good football, but it’s up to us to show our football and hopefully we can keep the three points at home.”

There is sure to be some conflicting feelings for Arsenal supporters but in reality, it is very simple. To win the league, they’re likely to need a favour from their biggest rivals and that should be something they hope for.
