Three players Arsenal can target after Benjamin Sesko summer transfer blow

By Staff

Arsenal manager Mikel Arteta will be having a rethink over his summer transfer plans after Benjamin Sesko reportedly made his decision on Tuesday morning.

According to journalist Fabrizio Romano, Sesko has decided to extend his contract at RB Leipzig this summer and will not be making a move to the Premier League. The Slovenian centre-forward had been expected to make a decision in June, potentially before this summer’s European Championships.

The Gunners had been heavily linked with a move for the striker with reports last month suggesting he had agreed to move to the Emirates Stadium. But this change of heart appears to have crushed Arsenal hopes of completing a deal this summer.

With Sesko interest potentially over for at least another transfer window, has taken a look at the three players Arsenal could now pivot towards to fill their gap at the top of the pitch.

When deciding in which direction to head next, it is important to know what sort of striker the Gunners are looking for. Arteta seems to have a preference for a quick, tall striker who can hold up the ball to allow Arsenal’s impressive midfield to dominate up the pitch.

Therefore, top of that list must be Newcastle United’s Alexander Isak. The Swede was a force to be reckoned with in the Premier League this season and could easily hold the line at the top of the pitch.

His pace and eye for a goal means he is of interest to a few clubs and the Magpies may be forced to sell to adhere to Financial Fair Play (FFP) restrictions. Another name who has also impressed in the Premier League and could be on Arsenal’s radar is Brentford’s Ivan Toney.

The England international has spoken about wanting a big move this summer after returning to the Brentford line-up following his betting ban. Toney has performed well since his return and it will be interesting to see how he performs at the European Championships as it could give a reading as to whether he could do a job for Arsenal next season.

Finally, there is Napoli’s Victor Osimhen. The Nigerian does not have experience in the Premier League like the other two candidates but he has been a goal threat for the Serie A club these past two campaigns.

Osimhen is also expected to depart Naples this summer with his relationship at the club strained. The club’s president Aurelio De Laurentiis has already predicted that a Premier League or PSG switch awaits his striker.
